Snapchat's redesign shoots for the stars

Snapchat's recently-announced redesign is about more than a UI change. It's about more even than an ambitious strategy shift to differentiate Snapchat for users and advertisers (though that would be ambitious enough). It's an attempt to fix everything we've gotten wrong about the internet.

While that intro may sound like melodrama, that's exactly how Snapchat had positioned it. And while any responsible reading of it should carry some skepticism, the points they make sure thoughtful and we'll articulated, and the plans they have seem like the closest anybody's gotten to addressing our problems.

I've deleted a few attempts to condense the announcement and corresponding editorial into convenient bullets that didn't do them justice. So I recommend giving the announcement a read, or at least watch this :60 video.
